Live piano music is a beautiful way to add the perfect touch to your special day. It is both tasteful and appropriate throughout a wedding ceremony. Because I want your day to be the best it can be I have listed some of the most commonly asked questions to help you in your decision making process.

WHY SHOULD I HIRE PIANO COLLABORATIONS TO PLAY FOR MY WEDDING?

As an accomplished pianist, I have greatly enjoyed playing for many weddings during my career. I believe that live music is always a classic element for any special event and that the addition of an acoustical instrument such as the piano, will elevate the level of elegance for your ceremony.

If you desire more than just a piano, other musicians may also be available to perform with me as an addition to my standard wedding package. (Additional charges will apply based on the rate of the musicians being contracted for service.)

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR STANDARD WEDDING PACKAGE?

My basic ceremony package includes:

  • PRELUDE MUSIC - up to 30 minutes of music played as guests arrive and are seated.
  • PROCESSIONAL MUSIC - Music for the seating of family members, and the attendant and bride entries
  • CEREMONY MUSIC - Special music, hymns or other musical interludes during the ceremony itself
  • RECESSIONAL MUSIC - Music for the exit of the bride and groom, attendants, and family members
  • POSTLUDE MUSIC - Music for the departure of the guests

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY?

I specialize in classical piano repertoire, but I am also able to accommodate requests for lighter musical fare such as popular show tunes, and light pop. I am happy to honor special requests if the music is available and is playable on the piano.

WHO DECIDES WHAT MUSIC IS PLAYED AND WHEN?

You are free to have as much or as little to do with the decision making process as you like. Some clients prefer to give me guidelines as to the styles they do or don’t like, and others just ask me to choose the music for them. After more than 40 years of playing for weddings and special events, I am experienced enough to let you know what I think will or won’t work in a wedding and where it would be most appropriate during the ceremony.

I DON’T KNOW MUCH ABOUT MUSIC. WILL YOU HELP ME?

Absolutely! Doing the planning is one of my great joys as I get to know you a little bit better and try to hone in on exactly what kind of an atmosphere you are trying to create for your wedding. Once I know that, I can help you choose music that will not only fit your special requests, but will also be fitting and in keeping with the type of wedding environment you are trying to create.

DO YOU ACCOMMODATE SPECIAL MUSIC REQUESTS?

If you would like me to learn a special song for your wedding, I require 4 weeks notice to search for the music and get it ordered on time. There may be an additional cost to you for the music purchase if applicable.

I AM GOING TO HAVE AN ORGANIST FOR MY PROCESSIONAL AND RECESSIONAL, BUT CAN YOU DO EVERYTHING ELSE?

Not a problem. I can work in any combination with other musicians you desire to have participate in your wedding.

MY BEST FRIEND IS GOING TO SING DURING THE CEREMONY. CAN YOU ACCOMPANY HER?

Certainly. A short 30 minute rehearsal just before the beginning of the prelude music is necessary for this service. If this is something you desire, we can discuss it further during your consultation.

WHAT DO YOU REQUIRE AT THE VENUE?

Since I am a pianist, my preference is to play on a tuned piano in good working condition. If no piano is available, I would be willing to play on a keyboard with weighted keys and pedal. I will not play an organ. I do not require any amplification and prefer it not be used on an acoustic instrument unless it is necessary for the recording of the ceremony itself. If a keyboard is used, then amplification may be necessary.

WILL YOU PLAY OUTDOORS?

I am happy to adapt to any venue within reason. If I am to play outside, then the piano or keyboard will need to be amplified so that everyone can enjoy the music. It should also be protected from the weather and direct sunlight.

CAN WE BOOK YOU FOR OUR RECEPTION AFTER THE WEDDING?

Absolutely! For cocktail hour, I play a variety of light classical, opera, popular and Broadway show tunes. Depending on the venue, it may be best to place the piano near the buffet line so that people can enjoy the music as they pass by to get their food and drinks. In general, my music is not suitable for dancing, but is quite an elegant touch for cocktails and dinner.

WILL YOU RESERVE A DATE FOR SOMEONE?

I do not hold dates for clients who are just in the initial planning stages and are not ready to make a commitment. A date is held when you sign a contract with me and secure it with a deposit. If the contract and deposit are not returned within two weeks, the date is opened once again for the consideration of others. A 50% deposit is due with the contract and the balance will be due two weeks before the event day.

ARE REFERENCES AVAILABLE?

Absolutely. I am happy to provide you with a list of references if you so desire.

IF I WANT TO DISCUSS MY OPTIONS WITH YOU PERSONALLY, WHAT IS MY NEXT STEP?

Just fill out the booking enquiry form Here to let me know of your interest. I will then arrange a meeting with you to talk through the initial stages of planning.
